character design

This was a concept sketch for "Transported"by Christine Findlay. Could be described as a typical family day out in the heart of Dundee.
Working through, finding a way of combining mixed media, I love that experimental approach, with my character design style. I don't feel it's quite there, but I have a deadline of a show in September so that's a great motivator. I think it's going to really help me work through some problems.
I'm also really keen to get going on some environment/setting sketches. I've already started so hopefully, I'll be posting the outcomes soon.

Feeding the Birds

Mixed media sketch on textured surface, pen, ink, acrylic, pencil and chalk

I came across this sketch of Sara recently. I plan to do more simple line drawings. There's something so pleasing about the simplicity of line.

Observational Sketches

Character design

A few character designs developed from observational sketches. I've really enjoyed getting back into the ol' pencil sketching. Finishing a few simple line drawings is extrememely satisfying.

Character design and illustration

So, a mix of some character designs. I'm keen to develop ideas in mixed media and digital painting.

Candid Cameos

I'll be posting alot more material from "Candid Cameos", a collaboration of work with writer, Christine Findlay. This is an initial sketch for an idea.

Observational Drawing

Charcoal sketch

A half hour(ish!) sketch of mum. This was done a while ago. I'd like to pick up speed for some of my portrait sketching. Especially for sittings. I can't afford to pay for any bugger to sit still for long enough.
